The roots of Science of Mind run deep and wide and draw from many religions, philosophies, sciences and literature. This class guides us through the writings of three key influences of Ernest Holmes' development of the SOM text: Ralph Waldo Emerson (philosopher & essayist), Thomas Troward (eminent British jurist & metaphysician), and Emma Curtis Hopkins (mystic, and considered the "teacher of teachers"). The course is like a stimulating book club, with readings, discussion, and experiential exercises to ground the ideas into practical understanding.
Textbooks:
"Emerson's Essays," Ralph Waldo Emerson
"The Edinburgh and Dore Lectures on Mental Science," Thomas Troward
"Scientific Christian Mental Practice," Emma Curtis Hopkins

ABOUT THE FILM
“White Like Me,” by producer, Tim Wise, focuses on the politics of race and racism. Documenting the issues of white privilege and their psychological effects on societal norms, it aims to change the national discussion about race and racism so that current realities might more closely align with our cherished American principles.
ABOUT THE LOCAL/ONLINE EVENT
The event begins with screenings in local New Thought centers, followed by whole group dialogue. Then all participating centers are networked live via video screen in each location so that ministers can share insights derived from their local dialogues.
